COMMUNITY TO COMMUNITY FUND As a way to help the community with a vehicle for giving and a commitment to due diligence, Aspen Community Foundation established the Community to Community Fund for disaster relief in response to Hurricane Katrina. The Community Foundation received $94,155 from 36 individual donors and families within one month of launching the Fund. In addition, through the City of Aspen’s organizing of “Fat Tuesday” on September 13, 2005, when several area restaurants and clubs donated all or a percentage of their evening proceeds to Hurricane relief efforts, the City of Aspen donated $59,300 to the Fund, half of the proceeds from the event. After researching Gulf Coast community foundations to identify one that seemed best positioned to meet the critical needs of Katrina victims, Aspen Community Foundation distributed the total $153,455 to the Baton Rouge Area Community Foundation. The Community to Community Fund also acted as a conduit for supporting those affected by the Northern Pakistan earthquake in October 2005.
